Implementation — Putting It All Together
/foundations/risky-play/implementation
Implementation is the full-stack expression of Risky Play:
Sprint → Setup → Start‑line → Supervision → Reset → Re‑Entry → Debrief → Daily Loop.
Each step lowers cost, protects dignity, and returns learners to practice with agency intact.
Before the Session
Setup (Space & Materials)
Stage provocations (half‑built structures, open invitations).
Remove hidden hazards; leave visible challenge intact.
[bomb]Affordances|Design the space so learners can act without needing permission.[/bomb]
Quick Huddle (Value‑Neutral)
One shared container: concerns, appreciations, and expectations.
Short, neutral, and owned by everyone.
House Rules + Active Rules
House Rules = stable norms built from student patterns.
Active Rules = “today’s rules” shaped by current games.
Shift items between them based on stability.
Start‑Line
Plans & Intentions
“What’s your plan for the first few minutes?”
“Solo, duo, or group?”
Clarify intent without controlling it.
Boundary Surfacing
“Name one boundary you’ll keep as you play.”
Keeps safety/dignity visible without reducing agency.
Role of Adults
“I’ll watch for safety, dignity, and agency.
You choose how to engage and re‑enter.”
During Play
Supervision Dial
Spot → shadow → scan.
Increase/decrease intensity using educator judgment.
Fade when stable; step‑in when threshold crossed.
Micro‑Nudges
“Try for two minutes and we’ll review.”
“Want a suggestion or do you have one?”
Bounded trials prevent over‑scaffolding.
Conflict Check
“Is this part of the game?”
“You good?”
[bomb]Conflict|Moves that erode others’ fun or agency.[/bomb]
Reset & Re‑Entry (BRIG‑Aligned)
Soft Reset
Boundary + A/B options; keep the game intact.
Cheap, fast, and dignity‑preserving.
Hard Reset
Change game/location/players.
Use when conflict persists beyond small adjustments.
Re‑Entry Ladder
Guidance → bounded choices → direct suggestion → fade.
Narrate the return, not the misstep.
Debrief
Short Reflection
“One thing that worked, one thing to try next time.”
Keep responses low‑stakes and concrete.
Transfer Move
“Which move will you reuse elsewhere today?”
Connects experience → pattern → agency.
Dignity Close
“Thanks for sticking with it.”
“That reset helped everyone re‑enter.”
[bomb]Narration|Describe actions + impact, not character.[/bomb]
Daily Quick Loop
Field Scan
Read energy, clusters, relationships.
Look for drift, patterns, and early conflict signals.
Micro‑Wins
Log 3 micro‑wins; spotlight 1.
Reinforces internal growth and stabilizes norms.
Rules Hygiene
Tune Active Rules → archive to House Rules when stable.
Keep rules descriptive, not moralizing.
