Etuaptmumk / Two-Eyed Seeing

origin → attribution → boundary → provisional ARF-facing use

This page does not teach Etuaptmumk. It names the source, states the boundary, and records how ARF is approaching the teaching while permission and guidance remain active.

▸ ◉ Key Insight

ARF is not claiming ownership of Two-Eyed Seeing. ARF is naming a resonance, asking for guidance, and holding the term only under attribution, boundary, reciprocity, and correction.

▸ ⚡ Mantras
  • Name the source.
  • Do not claim the teaching.
  • Resonance is not permission.
  • Guidance outranks preference.
  • If the name must fall away, let it fall cleanly.

Encounter resonance → identify the source.

Name the source → state the boundary.

State the boundary → define ARF-facing use.

Define use → ask for permission and guidance.

Guidance arrives → revise, narrow, reciprocate, or remove the term.

▸ ⌘ Micro-Lexicon
  • Etuaptmumk — the term being approached here through attribution and permission-seeking posture.
  • Two-Eyed Seeing — the English rendering commonly used in the sources linked below.
  • Permission-seeking reference — a named lineage reference held provisionally while guidance is sought.
  • ARF-facing capacity — the local ARF capacity to hold more than one way of seeing without collapsing the field into a single-track read.
  • Correction in process — the public commitment to revise, narrow, or remove language when guidance requires it.

Laconic Summary

Etuaptmumk / Two-Eyed Seeing is honoured here as a teaching lineage ARF is seeking to name correctly. ARF does not own it, certify it, or teach it. Tony is asking whether and how this reference may be held with integrity.

What the Teaching Names

In the sources linked below, Etuaptmumk / Two-Eyed Seeing is described as learning to see from one eye with the strengths of Indigenous knowledges and ways of knowing, from the other eye with the strengths of Western knowledges and ways of knowing, and using both together for the benefit of all.

That description matters because it is not a cute metaphor for “balance.” It is a relational teaching with source, context, and responsibility. Translation without boundary turns into spiritual clip-art with better font choices. No thank you.

Where This Reference Comes From

Named Sources

This page currently names Elders Albert and Murdena Marshall, Mi’kmaw context, and the Integrative Science co-learning journey with Cheryl Bartlett as the source-lineage ARF is approaching.

The exact attribution language remains adjustable because guidance is not a decorative garnish. It governs the plate.

Boundary

Links, reading, resonance, and citation do not create authority to carry a teaching.

This page therefore uses permission-seeking language instead of adoption language. No ownership. No certification. No “I found a shiny teaching and made it mine.” Absolutely not. Put the raccoon hands away.

How I Am Holding It Here

ARF is using this reference provisionally to name a resonance: the discipline of holding more than one valid way of seeing without flattening the field into whichever read feels easiest, fastest, or most comfortable.

In ARF language, the local capacity is not “using Two-Eyed Seeing as a tool.” The local capacity is not collapsing complexity before the read is earned.

This matters because ARF already treats distortion as costly, refusal as structural, and dignity as a constraint. If a read collapses too early, cost routes badly. If cost routes badly, weaker nodes pay. If weaker nodes pay, the system has started wearing ethics as a Halloween costume. Boo, but make it liability.

What I Am Not Claiming

Not Ownership

ARF does not own Etuaptmumk / Two-Eyed Seeing.

Not Certification

This page does not claim Tony is certified to teach, transmit, or represent the teaching.

Not Doctrine Capture

ARF is not absorbing the teaching into ARF doctrine. Resonance is being named; authority is not being claimed.

The Active Permission Question

Permission Posture

I am asking whether it is appropriate to name Etuaptmumk / Two-Eyed Seeing in ARF materials, what attribution language should be used, what boundaries should be observed, what should not be said, and what reciprocity is appropriate.

This page is therefore not a finished claim. It is a visible holding pattern: source named, boundary stated, use narrowed, correction active.

If Guidance Says “No”

If guidance says this term should not live here, the term will be removed.

The underlying ARF structure can still be described without naming the teaching: multiple reads can be held, tension can remain uncollapsed, synthesis can wait until the field is ready, and movement can remain governed by permission, dignity, cost, and refusal.

The name does not stay because I like it. The name stays only if the boundary permits it. 🥬 CELERY

How This Connects to ARF

Clean Read

ARF reads from observables and field effects. It does not demand interior access as the price of support.

Held Tension

ARF often needs more than one read to remain valid: structure and relation, cost and dignity, refusal and movement, field and person.

That is the ARF-facing resonance. The full site-governance mechanism belongs on the next page, where Clarity Engine becomes King Engine and the gloves come off politely. With receipts. Obviously.

CTA Rail

This page names the teaching, the source, the boundary, and the active permission posture. It does not teach the engine. That comes later.
